Tribute to the Abu Ghraib Prisoners, 2003

this installation comments on the Abu Ghraib scandal by juxtaposing it primary symbol the tortured detainee with metaphors of Iraq's ancient heritage. The symbol of prisoners tortured by "liberating" armies is in the forefront, surrounded by transparent figures from ancient art and culture such as the semi god figures worshipped in Babylon and Assyria and Ishtar goddess of passion and conflict. An electric wire pierces the screen from his sleeve towards the back, thereby electrifying the present object.
