Alice: Curioser and Curioser

and down the rabbit hole I tumbled!

@ The Victoria and Albert Museum until 31st Dec 2021

I have made no secret of my fascination with staged art installations that have an immersive quality.

‘Alice in Wonderland’ has been a favourite tale of mine since a tender age, but unlike other tales, this one had stuck to my spirit... haunted and empathising with how that brave child leaves all that is safe and familiar, and goes on an adventure where excitement and fear simultaneously tease her.

I still think its content is just as, if not more adapted to adults than to children (anyone seen a caterpillar high and lushly surrounded by magic mushrooms recently?)

Ultimately the show manages to stage, to incarnate the inner world of someone who lingers inside their imagination just as much as they inhabit the real world.

What poor soul has never experienced the thrill of inhabiting their own imagination for an extended period of time, be it willingly or not?
