Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2021

Other than it being in autumn, the RA’s Summer Exhibition was as usual…in some ways predictable but still wonderful in bringing together famous Academicians along side emerging or even completely unknown artists.

One really gets a sense that Africa-themed art is represented, or rather that of the African diaspora. Textile is another common theme palpable through out.

… a myrid number of mostly small art works were hung up in a crowd on the walls, rooms looked similar so for an exhausted Londoner a bit more room differentiation would have come in handy (maybe themes for the various rooms instead of numbers? sorry just thinking out loud). Perhaps financial pressure makes it necessary, but I could not help but wonder why the traditional display was not made a bit more interesting from a curatorial point of view?

Nonetheless many of the selected pieces were great…just being there in that room with works of art spanning many different materials and mediums left me feeling “apaisée” ...bit more in touch with my humanity.
